Service & Justice
The Vine is a community that is committed to living out our faith by serving our neighbors and seeking a more just world. In the past, service opportunities have included volunteering at soup kitchens and community farms. We have engaged in learning and advocacy around hunger, immigration, environmental justice, racial justice, among other issues. We have marched in protests, and taken immersion trips to learn about racial justice in the southern U.S., faith-based advocacy in D.C., and immigration justice issues at the U.S.-Mexico border.
While unfortunately some of this work must be on hold this semester because of the pandemic, there are still some pressing opportunities to serve right now:
We will also be convening Anti-Racism Small Groups this semester to engage in discussion, learning, and mutual accountability around dismantling racism and white supremacy through a Christian lens.
While unfortunately some of this work must be on hold this semester because of the pandemic, there are still some pressing opportunities to serve right now:
- Volunteer to help food insecure neighbors through Broadway Community's soup kitchen and food pantry uptown
- Volunteer to help tend the newly replanted rooftop community garden at Broadway Presbyterian Church
- Volunteer at and spread the word about the College Student Pantry to help combat student food insecurity downtown.
